How to Prepare for UPSC CSE 2026 in 6 Month?

1. Understand the Syllabus and Exam Pattern

Spend the first few days understanding the UPSC syllabus for both Prelims and Mains. This helps you identify important topics and avoid unnecessary reading. Print out the syllabus and keep it as your daily guide.

2. Focus on High-Value NCERTs and Standard Books

In the first two months, cover core NCERTs (Class 6-12) for History, Polity, Geography, and Economy, along with standard books like:

  • Polity: M. Laxmikanth

  • Modern History: Spectrum

  • Geography: G.C. Leong

  • Economy: Ramesh Singh or Sriram Notes

  • Environment: Shankar IAS

Keep your sources limited and revise them repeatedly.

3. Current Affairs and Newspaper Reading

Dedicate one hour daily to The Hindu or Indian Express, focusing on government schemes, judgments, and issues linked to the syllabus. Use monthly compilations from reliable sources like Civil Saarthi, Vision IAS, or ForumIAS for revision.

4. Practice Mock Tests and Answer Writing

Start Prelims mock tests by the 2nd month and attempt at least 40–50 tests before the exam. For Mains, practice one answer daily to develop structure, clarity, and content recall. Analyze your mistakes regularly.

5. Revise and Strengthen Weak Areas

In months 4–6, shift focus to revision and practice. Revise every subject at least 3 times, especially Polity, Economy, Environment, and Current Affairs. Make short notes, flashcards, and quick summaries for last-minute recall.

6. Stay Consistent and Balanced

Create a fixed daily routine: 8–10 hours of focused study, healthy breaks, and regular revision. Avoid distractions, and focus on concept clarity over volume. Remember, UPSC rewards consistency, not cramming.
